Description
This module provides the student with opportunities to integrate and expand existing nursing knowledge and skills in caring for a variety of patients/client groups in a variety of settings and to develop competence in care delivery within their scope of practice. Students must attend 100% of their practice placements to successfully complete the placement. Students must attend a minimum of 80% of their practice placements to undertake a practice assessment.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate integration of nursing knowledge and skills in the provision of nursing care.
2. Use iniatitive in providing nursing care to a variety of patients/client groups in a variety of settings.
3. Show ability to communicate effectively with patients/client groups, families and team members.
4. Contribute to the multidisciplinary team in an assertive and professional manner.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the nurse / midwife in a variety of care settings.
6. Display an ability to reflect on own practice and the practice of others to improve care.

Opportunities in Specialist Areas:.
To observe and question the specialist nurse / midwife about what they do and why they do it.To develop a knowledge of the specialist area.To participate with the specialist nurse / midwife in delivery of service.To reflect upon their own feelings when faced with individuals with complex needs.To communicate effectively with clients, families and other members of the multidisciplinary team and where appropriate participate in case conferences..
