Description
The module will enable students to:Mental Health Placements Expand knowledge and understanding of nursing practice and develop proficiency in nursing skills. Integrate nursing knowledge to practice.General Nursing Placements To assist students to develop their knowledge and skills in the care of people who are experiencing physical illness. To enable students to examine the roles of nurses working in a general hospital setting.

Learning Outcomes
1. Assess, plan, and prioritise nursing care to clients with mental health problems with a variety of health care needs
2. Demonstrate proficiency in complex nursing skills
3. Communicate relevant information to other members of the team verbally and in writing
4. Begin to integrate research findings to nursing practice
5. Contribute to the team in an assertive and professional manner
6. Interact appropriately with clients, family members and other members of the healthcare organization

Become increasingly proficient in nursing skills. Participate in the organisation and delivery of nursing care. Reflect on personal performance in order to improve practice. Participate as part of the team. Utilise research findings in delivery of nursing care..
Specialist Areas (Mental Health).

Observe and question the specialist practitioner about what they do and why they do it. Develop a knowledge of specialist area. Participate with specialist in delivery of service. Reflect upon their own feelings when faced with individuals with complex needs. Communicate effectively with clients, families and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Where appropriate participate in case conferences..
General Nursing Placements.

Establish helping relationships with people who are experiencing physical illness. Observe and question general nursing staff about what they do and why they do it. Develop their knowledge of physical illness and treatments. Monitor the physical well-being of people who are experiencing physical illness. Administer physical treatments and provide assistance to people that require it in terms of their fundamental physical needs. Identify and meet the emotional needs of people who are experiencing physical illness. Reflect upon their own feelings when faced with situations of people that are in pain, dying or dead. Communicate with other staff members, both verbally and in writing, about what they have observed, contributed and learned when relating to particular people who are experiencing physical illness. Plan, implement and evaluate health promotion activities relating to particular people who are experiencing physical illness..
