Description
The student will gain experience in a variety of health and education care settings, and acquire appropriate skills that may be applied in the care of people with an intellectual disability. Students will be fully supervised within all placements, this is your opportunity to practice, question the experts and reflect on acquisition of skills. You will be allocated to placements with a variety of time spans. You will complete learning plans in all placments. Practice Assessment Records (PAR's) need to be completed if you are in a placement of 3 weeks or more. Linking and applying theoretical knowledge to the placement need to be evident in your portfolios and prescribed evidence.

Learning Outcomes
1. Appraise nursing and other frameworks in the assessment/planning of the individual/group needs
2. Deliver/evaluate best practice interventions
3. Collaborate with service users/family/team members
4. Demonstrate the role of the professional eg speech and language therapist, physiotherapist. teacher
5. Critique the role of the nurse in the various placements of this module

Opportunities will be provided for students to.
To practice nursing in a variety of settings To experience working with other members of the multidisciplinary team To reflect upon their ever developing knowledge of Intellectual disability nursingOpportunities in Specialist Areas.

Observe and question the specialist practitioner about what they do and why they do it. Develop a knowledge of specialist area Participate with specialist in delivery of service Reflect upon personal practice and observations Communicate effectively with clients, families and other members of the team Where appropriate participate in case conferences and individualised planning.
