This module aims that on completion participants will have developed knowledge and skills of a cooperative approach in order to lead improvements as support/service users, carers and support/service providers. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Use individual, group and course resources to identify personal learning needs and develop an individual learning plan designed to address the challenges associated with meeting your personal and this module objectives. 2. Discuss “intellectual disability” from a number of different perspectives i.e. individual, family and health care professional and make a class presentation of what you have found. 3. Identify in a group, a service improvement initiative that is appropriate to the service you attend and gather appropriate information relating to how this project can work. 4. Examine the social, political and cultural influences that could impact on the success or failure of the improvement project you have identified for this module; present this information to your class peers. 5. Through everyone talking and working together demonstrate how to work effectively as a member of a group in leading an agreed support or service improvement project; identify the unique contribution you have made to this project. 6. Debate how good leaders get things done and relate this information to the development of your agreed support or service improvement project; set up a meeting with a leader in your organisation and identify the challenges that may arise out of this exercise in a group brainstorm poster. 7. Consider in a practical way, how concepts such as citizenship’, ‘social inclusion’ and ‘values based practice’ can be applied within the context of intellectual disability care and produce a group brainstorm document on this. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
