Description
Module aims to enable the healthcare professional to work within his or her scope of practice to apply evidence based knowledge and skills to the care of individuals with continence promotion and /or incontinence management needs.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate the ability to conduct a systematic holistic assessment of a patient with continence promotion and /or incontinence management needs.
2. Assess the patient’s understanding of their continence promotion/ incontinence management needs.
3. Facilitate the client to self-manage their condition, where appropriate.
4. Plan, implement and evaluate care in consultation with the patient and interdisciplinary team.
5. Demonstrate the ability to initiate / interpret / implement current regimes of care for the patient with continence promotion and /or incontinence management needs.
6. Act to enhance the personal and professional development of self and others in relation to the care of people with continence promotion and /or incontinence management needs.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
In the practice environment students will be expected to meet certain requirements.
• Work directly with people who have continence promotion and /or incontinence management needs.• Learn about the range of treatment interventions available for these patients.• Use policy and research evidence to support nursing interventions carried out with patients who have continence promotion and /or incontinence management needs.• Conduct a nursing assessment and a plan of care for a patient with incontinence management needs.• Comprehensively review the range of therapeutic interventions that may benefit the patient.• In cooperation with the patient/client, family or significant others and the healthcare team negotiate a comprehensive discharge plan of care to facilitate adherence to current treatment regimes.• Empower the patient to understand and accept the significance of their treatment modality for a better quality of life and reduction in incidence of relapse..
