Description
The purpose of this module is to introduce students to leadership and management in nursing practice. We examine the influential theories of leadership and management and the ways in which they apply - or otherwise - to contemporary nursing practice. Key related areas of management are also explored including: the use of power in leadership and management; recruitment and retention of staff; delegation; teamwork; motivation in the workplace and career development.

Learning Outcomes
1. Explore the application of leadership and management theory to nursing practice.
2. Discuss the key skills required for effective nursing management.
3. Analyse the effectiveness of nursing management in the context of contemporary healthcare.
