Description
This module aims to increase the students understanding of the nursing management of persons with cardiovascular conditions and build on current knowledge and experience.

Learning Outcomes
1. Analyse the bio-psychosocial and environmental factors influencing the cardiovascular health of an individual.
2. Examine the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease
3. Evaluate the important aspects of cardiac nursing such as: clinical assessment, treatment and management of care in a variety of settings, the role of continuity of care, and self management for patients with cardiac disease.
4. Evaluate the key issues underpinning national policy in cardiovascular health.
5. Analyse the role of the nurse in the primary care setting in the management of patients/clients with cardiovascular health needs within the context of the Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice (An Bord Altranais 2000).
6. Apply the principles of research and audit to the nursing care of individuals with cardiovascular healthcare needs.
