This module aims to:Identify and explore the core characteristics and micro skills associated with a sound therapeutic alliance and provide participants the opportunity to practice these skills in the context of the learning group.

Learning Outcomes
1. Apply theory to practice in the context in the context of the learning groupin order to develop competence in the generic micro skills associated with establishing a therapeutic alliance
2. Critically analyse the core characteristics of an effective counsellor
3. Engage in self -evaluation regarding the presence of such personal/professional characteristics
4. Discuss and debate the common factors associated with seffective therapeutic practice

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Access module (3) is designed to prepare students to apply for the Graduate Diploma in Counselling/ Psychotherapeutic Practice by assisting them to apply theory to practice. The emphasis in this module is to develop students counselling skills practice, within the context of the learning group. From an academic perspective students will be assisted to develop academic study skills and utilise support systems..
