Description
You the student nurse in intellecutal disability will work in the clinical setting for 8 weeks where you will have an opportunity to assess, plan, evaluate and implement nursing care to a high standard. During this module you will have the opportunity to consider in depth the area of health promotion and develop a plan for one child, person with intellectual disability that you are working with. You will also develop a portfolio with some reflection on the practice as a student nurse that you are developing.

Learning Outcomes
1. Assess the health promotion needs of a child or person with intellectual disability
2. Plan a health promotion program for a child or person with intellectual disability.
3. Analyse the roles of different professionals contributing to the care of the child or person with an intellectual disability.
4. Explore the collaborative role of the nurse to achieve the best outcomes for the child or person with intellectual disability and their family.
5. Reflect on practice at level 4

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Health Promotion.
You will devleop a health promotion plan with the help of your preceptor for one child or person with intellectual disability..

Learning Plan.
You will negotiate and complete a learning plan on each placement during the module..

Par.
You will complete a PAR in each placment and go through an assessment process with your preceptor..

Level 4.
You will demonstrate an approach to care consistent with level 4 ability in providing good quality nursing care.

Collaborative Care.
Where possible you will collaborate with people with intellectual disablity, their families and multi-discplinary team members under the guidance of your preceptor..

Speiclist Placements.
You might be involved in speicalist placements during this module..

Reflection.
You will get an opporunity to reflect on your role as a nurse for people with intellectual diasblility. Reflection will include reading of the literature and must demonstrate the capcity to think at level 4..
