Description
|
The module will enable students to: Consolidate and integrate knowledge and experience in preparation for the transition from student to registered nurse; Demonstrate confidence and competence in clinical decision making in nursing practice Contribute effectively to the work of health care team.

Learning Outcomes |
1. This module immerses the student in the practice environment of mental health nursing. Working in in-patient and/or community settings, as part of the staff complement but under the supervision of registered nurses and with the assistance of clinical placement co-ordinators, students work to consolidate the skills that they have been developing on the programme heretofore. 2. In availing of the opportunities offered by this module to consolidate and integrate knowledge and experience, students are preparing for the transition from student to registered nurse. 3. As part of this process they are expected to begin to demonstrate confidence and competence in clinical decision making in nursing practice. This is evidenced by their ability to contribute effectively to the work of health care team.

Opportunities will be provided for students to. Be exposed to care situations that challenge student initiative and resourcefulness in a productive way Become increasingly proficient in using therapeutic skills in group work Discuss the rationale for and usefulness of nursing care frameworks/policies used in the practice setting Participate in the decision making processes in the health care team Reflect on personal performance, identify personal and professional support needs and avail of appropriate resources Engage with junior colleagues to facilitate learning Discuss the health promotion needs of individuals /families/groups within the practice setting.
