Description
This module will enable the student to critically appraise nursing practice in the context of contemporary occoupatinal health care.The student is expected to engage with class and seminar materials, attend clinical skills laboratory sessions as advised and actively engage in self directed learning.

Learning Outcomes
1. Appraise the role of occupational health nursing in contemporary society
2. Reflect on the work environment and its effects on health.
3. Critique approaches underpinning the occupational health nurses role in relation to clinical, managerial and professional nursing practice.
4. Evaluate issues which challenge/support the professional role development of the Clinical Nurse Specialist in the context of Occupational health care.
5. Evaluate issues which challenge/support the professional role development of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the context of Occupational health care

Principles of complex case management and application of case management strategies, including physical health issues, injuries, stress management and psychological well-being..
Principles underpinning risk management and clinical governance.

Strategies and approaches underpinning effective health surveillance and outcomes measurement..
Legislative requirements, professional frameworks and ethical issues underpinning occupational health nursing practice including health and safety act, employment law, informed consent , statement writing, record-keeping, scope of practice..
