Description
The student will critically appraise the clinical skills and evidence base underpinning excellence in occoupational health nursing.Students are expected to be working in an occoupational health enviornment. Students are expected to engage with course material in class and seminars and to attend the clinical laboratory practice session as advised.

Learning Outcomes
1. Appraise a range of clinical protocols in the diagnosis and workplace management of persons with diverse minor injuries and illnesses.
2. Evaluate the range of interventions necessary for the effective management of patient groups with occupational injuries/illnesses
3. Critique approaches underpinning the process of diagnosis, including structured clinical examination, radiology, blood analysis.
4. Evaluate pharmacological interventions underpinning occupational health care
5. Assess the use of evidence based practice in occupational health nursing
6. Apply the concept of excellence to occupational health nursing.

Revision of relevant anatomy and physiology..
Principles of clinical assessment, examination and documentation procedures and skills..

Principles underpinning diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making, diagnostic strategies and tools..
Specific assessments and range of interventions according to patient groups, e.g. soft tissue injuries, fractures, wounds, PUO, head injuries, minor illnesses of the respiratory, urinary and gastro-intestinal systems, burns and scalds, ophthalmic and ENT minor injuries/illnesses.

Application, prescription and interpretation of radiological investigations.
Application, selection and interpretation of blood analysis..

Selection and prescription of relevant pharmacological interventions..
Concept of evidence based practice and its application in occupational health care and nursing practice..

Workplace management skills in the care of specific patient groups..
