This module builds on the personal and professional development module in previous years of the course. The purpose of this module is to enhance students’ knowledge, skills and reflexive capacity to facilitate further integration of their personal and professional selves and integration of theory and practice.The module provides in depth exploration of how therapist self influences the therapeutic relationship, therapy process and ethical decision-making. It critically analyses the legal and professional regulations and obligations that inform psychotherapy practice.Students are expected to continue to attend personal therapy and group awareness sessions, engage in clinical practice and clinical supervision on a one-to-one and group basis, and participate in class based discussion and on line self directed learning activities. This work will be recorded in their portfolio which provides evidence and a record of their personal and professional development over the duration of the course. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Critically examine the therapeutic use of self and the therapeutic relationship from a range of psychotherapy perspectives. 2. Demonstrate thoughtful integration of theory and practice. 3. Examine in depth personal biases and preferences and their influence on the therapeutic process and therapeutic engagement with the client. 4. Demonstrate a proficiency in personal / professional reflexivity. 5. Demonstrate competency and ethicality in clinical practice in a range of contexts. 6. Demonstrate critical awareness of and response to the ethical dimensions of psychotherapy practice. 7. Demonstrate increased awareness of the multifactorial context in which psychotherapy is situated and practiced. 8. Professional & Personal Development. Through continued personal and interpersonal experiential inquiry the student will enhance their reflexive awareness of self-other relationships, critically examine their personal biases, preferences and blind-spots, and understand the use of self in the therapeutic process. The student will also demonstrate self care strategies.. Clinical Practice. The student will continue to engage in direct work with clients presenting with psychological problems of increasing complexity in a number of different practice settings. This work will be carried out under the guidance of experienced practitioners in contexts that are student friendly and aware.. Clinical Supervision. The student will continue to engage in formal supervision of their clinical practice in one-to-one and group formats. This will involve presentation of case work and demonstration of increasing integration of theory and practice, which can involve retrospective reflection of the students work in a range of ways, such as written reflective notes, audio / video recordings etc. Supervision will be conducted with an accredited supervisor who is clinically competent in the particular are of work in which the student is engaged.. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
