The student will acquire key competencies for establishing the therapeutic relationship within the framework of a theoretical orientation drawn from person-centred therapy and psychosynthesis | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Attend appropriately to the cues transmitted by clients, directly through language and indirectly through channels such as body language and paralinguistics 2. Respond to clients with empathy through strategies such as reflective listening, paraphrasing and summarising 3. Draw from Rogers conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard in their responses to clients 4. Facilitate clients elaboration of content, combining knowledge of the clients state with a sense of their difficulties and underlying needs 5.
