This module facilitates students in developing the competencies that underpin the effective and professional practice of counselling and psychotherapy within the Irish context. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Learning Outcomes | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Assess a potential clients suitability for counselling and psychotherapy in the context of the individuals presentation including recognition of any medical, ethical or legal factors 2. Formulate a holistic understanding of the client by taking into account factors such as their background and culture 3. Integrate psychotherapy with services provided by other healthcare professionals 4. Create a therapeutic alliance based on mutual trust through the clarification of mutual expectations, and the agreement on ground rules for the relationship 5. Strengthen the therapeutic alliance through the use of appropriate level of specific competencies including relevant professional and ethical guidelines 6.
