This module aims to equip students, through training in the use of advanced research techniques, to design a research project, execute it and analyse the results under supervision. Through practical experience, the students will gain a greater understanding of how research contributes to the development of knowledge and evidence based practice. Students will be provided with an academic supervisor when they are completing the assessment for this module.The indicative syllabus will be supported by master classes within the School of Nursing (academic staff, research students and visiting academics).In addition to supervision, students will be required to present their work as it developes to their peers and staff and spend time engaged in self directed learning. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|
1. Discuss the the philosophical roots of the main approaches to research with their relative merits for nursing and healthcare research. 2. Write a research problem and a research question suitable for investigation. 3. Demonstrate how to use basic analytical techniques. 4. Set out a clinical problem in the form of a research proposal, negotiate access and obtain ethical approval for its execution, 5. Select a data collection approach appropiate to an identified research question and critically defend this choice. 6. Organise and then manage data collection and data analysis 7.
