Description
This module provides students with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the content and assessment methodology of the Junior Cycle Science and Mathematics curricula.

Learning Outcomes
1. Design activity-based classes for Junior certificate science and maths classes in a safe environment
2. Assess students' prior knowledge
3. Anticipate common student problems
4. Design science and maths classes in streamed and mixed-ability settings
5. Guide JC students to effective design and execution of investigations
6. Teach algorithms based on understanding of the topic on hand

Context.
Exploration of the development of science and mathematics teaching in Irish Post Primary schools.

Syllabi.
Analysis of current science and mathematics syllabi at Post Primary Junior Cycle level..

Methodology.
Examination and development of appropriate methodological approaches to the teaching of the Junior Cycle Science and Mathematics Programmes.

Assessment.
Identification and development of the appropriate knowledge and skills necessary to assess student progress in the sciences and mathematics.

Classroom management.
Organisation of effective science teaching in areas such as laboratory management, use of equipment, storage of materials etc..
