Description
to enable students to attain the level of aural and reading comprehension required to understand authentic material in Spanish to increase fluency, accuracy and range in oral production in Spanish to further develop writing skills so that students can satisfactorily complete written assignments through Spanish to encourage students to learn more about contemporary issues of importance in Spanish-speaking countries to encourage students to work in groups as well as individually

1. Show an ability to critically read and extract the content of a variety of text types
2. Express views in writing on a variety of topics of cultural interest
3. Demonstrate an ability to restructure and rephrase Spanish to level B1
4. Demonstrate awareness of Spanish syntax to level B1

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Primarily authentic materials, including newspaper articles, extracts from television news and radio programmes on contemporary issues of importance in Spanish-speaking societies will be used. The activities undertaken using these materials will include.
Comprehension and information processing tasks based on listening to/ viewing of authentic materialsProduction of summaries, reports and analyses based on the topics introduced in class. Students will receive regular feedback on this written work, with emphasis on grammar usage and discursive writing.Researching and structuring group presentations on selected topics (and group discussions).
