Description
A Spanish language module that aims to consolidate reading and aural comprehension and spoken-language production.

Learning Outcomes
1. Write a critical appraisal of a contemporary Spanish novel in its original form
2. Write on complex subjects in a clear, well structured and detailed manner with a degree of accuracy appropriate for this level
3. Take part in a group discussion with a level of fluency and spontaneity, clarity of pronunciation and language accuracy appropriate for this level
4. Show an increased awareness of cultural diversity and a greater understanding of differences in business practices and other aspects of human behaviour and interaction in a global marketplace

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Novel.
Students will be required to read a Spanish novel and discuss it in relation to their own experience of working and studying with people from different cultural backgrounds..

Language-based class activities.
Group discussion.

Students will engage in group discussions on a range of topics relevant to Spanish and European societies and will analyse issues faced by the business community. Students will research the chosen topics and produce written syntheses and oral commentaries. The list of possible issues includes but is not limited to: the place of Spain in an enlarged Europe, job opportunities in Spanish-speaking countries, immigration, integration and identity, environmental issues, Hispanic-Irish business relations, business ethics, international relations (e.g. Hispanic-American relations), government and politics, etc..
