Description
The purpose of the module is to develop the student?s understanding of athletics and the analysis of athletic performances. It focuses on the methods relevant to the teaching and coaching of athletics from foundation to elite level. It will review and explore a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and coaching, thus preparing the students for Teaching Practice and familiarising them with the post-primary PE curriculum.

Learning Outcomes
1. Identify a range of athletic events.
2. Apply appropriate and effective teaching styles for athletics taught in physical education.
3. Plan and organize athletics lesson plans appropriate for age and ability.
4. Select and use appropriate assessment procedures on athletic performances.
5. Demonstrate the following transferable skills: group work skills, problem solving and observational skills.
