Description
The module provides an opportunity for the student to engage in work or project based learning which is individually relevant. The nature of the project undertaken will promote the notion of applied learning and will provide the opportunity to utilise knowledge of subject matter obtained in the degree up to that point.The module promotes the concepts of independent learning and the reflective practitioner.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate the ability to successfully undertake self-directed learning through the use of a negotiated learning contract and reflective learning log.
2. Show evidence of the acquisition of new and occupationally relevant skills, techniques and knowledge through work with practicing professions, postgraduate students or others involved in health, physical activity and sport or related areas of work.
3. Demonstrate the ability to apply the current academic literature relevent to the individual area of interest to the realities of the workplace and utilise prior learning.

This is an individually based module. The student is guided through the module in the following ways.

A series of lectures introducing guidelines and promoting effective planning..
A module handbook which contains all relevant information. Tutorial support by a designated staff member. Development of a Learning Contract or Agreement in conjunction with the tutor. The Learning Contract will include a statement about the rationale for the independent study, specific learning outcomes and strategies for achieving those learning outcomes. Report writing.
