Description
This module aims to teach the student the standard of cardiac first responder (CFR) and emergency first responder (EFR) care as described by the Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council of Ireland (PHECC).

Learning Outcomes
1. Explain the pre-hospital emergency care continuum
2. Peform adult, infant and child cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
3. Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
4. Clear an airway obstructed by a foreign body
5. Administer specific medications (aspirin and oxygen)in the appropriate circumstances
6. Recognise and treat general medical emergencies
7. Assist patients to self-administer specific prescribed medications (glyceryl trinitrate, salbutamol and glucose gel preparations)
8. Summarise the medico-legal issues that arise in cardiac first responder (CFR) and emergency first responder (EFR) situations
9. Perform the specific tasks associated with treating spinal injury (stabilisation of the cervical spine, application of a cervical collar, log rolling, use of spinal board and use of extraction device)
10. Execute haemorrhage control methods
11. Use an orophyaryngeal airway
12. Perform airway suction
