Description
This is an introduction to the fundamental skills of consecutive interpreting from Chinese to English for students who have little or no experience of interpreting.

Learning Outcomes
1. Interpret greetings and expressions commonly used in Chinese speeches.
2. Analyse and identify the main points in a speech in Chinese on a topic such as education, health, societal issues, economics, trade, etc.
3. Use the elementary skills and techniques to capture the meaning of a speech delivered in Chinese and to deliver the main points of that speech in English.
4. Deliver the English interpretation of a Chinese speech on cue, fluently and in the appropriate register.

Familiarisation with different registers, speech types.
Working on topics related to current affairs from a range of sources, such as newspaper, journals, TV or radio programs, etc..
