This is an introduction to the fundamental skills of consecutive interpreting from Chinese to English for students who have little or no experience of interpreting. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Learning Outcomes | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
1. Interpret greetings and expressions commonly used in Chinese speeches. 2. Analyse and identify the main points in a speech in Chinese on a topic such as education, health, societal issues, economics, trade, etc. 3. Use the elementary skills and techniques to capture the meaning of a speech delivered in Chinese and to deliver the main points of that speech in English. 4. Deliver the English interpretation of a Chinese speech on cue, fluently and in the appropriate register. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Interpreting practice. Working in groups with specific scenarios between Chinese and English.. Interpreting techniques. Working on note-taking for consecutive interpreting; developing short-term memory and recall skills.. Presentation and public speaking skills. Working on skills for public speaking and speech delivery.. Familiarisation with different registers, speech types.
