The module aims to develop students’ ability to translate semi-specialised Chinese texts, and to develop an understanding of the economic environment of China through the discussion of relevant and current texts and the commonly used techniques in economic translation, such as building your own glossaries for terminology, identifying textual features of the source text and the purpose of the use of the translation, etc. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Translate semi-specialised texts at an advanced level from Chinese into English. 2. Understand how to analyse economic texts in preparation for translation. 3. Master the usage and meaning of common economic terminology in English and in Chinese. 4. Write grammatically correct, natural English translation that is stylistically appropriate to the context of the text. 5. Use of comparable texts. Students will be sensitized to the importance of the use of comparable target texts in relation to the source text to be translated.. Use of terminological resources. Students will learn how to locate and use various textual sources for key terminology.. Understanding of the purpose of translation. Students will learn the importance of the purpose of translation in determining their translation strategies.. Textual analysis. Through translation assignments students will learn to apply a translation-oriented textual analysis.. Translating and reviewing.
