Module Aims
7 to help students attain a Lower Advanced level of oral English in order to be able to participate in undergraduate courses at university7 to improve and develop students' general speaking and listening skills7 to widen students' vocabulary range and improve their pronunciation skills and mastery of grammatical structures and functions in English7 to develop students' awareness of appropriacy and register in relation to their use of English7 to raise students' awareness of cultural differences7 to develop the skills needed to interact effectively with members of different cultures

Learning Outcomes
7 students should be able to employ a good level of linguistic knowledge while speaking English so that effective communication can take place on a wide range of topics in moderately complex situations.7 Students should be able to grasp the key points when listening to a variety of authentic listening texts and cope effectively with different accents.7 Students should be aware of key issues involved in understanding cultural diversity7 Students should have the skills needed to adapt to living in a new cultural environment7 Students should be able to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural environment

Indicative Syllabus
Using a variety of authentic texts and communicative language tasks, students will be given practice in listening and speaking. Students will gain extended practice of existing language in addition to extending and refining their ability to use that language. Language points, phonological issues and lexical items will be dealt with as they arise from the texts and tasks. Through texts and discussion points relating to cultural variability, students will develop their intercultural competence and communication skills.
