· to help students attain a Lower Advanced level of English in order to be able to participate in undergraduate courses at university · to improve and develop students' general speaking, listening and reading skills · to widen students' vocabulary range and improve their pronunciation skills and mastery of grammatical structures and functions in English · to develop students' awareness of appropriacy and register in relation to their use of English · to raise students' awareness of cultural differences

Students should be able to employ a good level of linguistic knowledge while speaking English so that effective communication can take place on a wide range of topics in moderately complex situations. Students should be able to grasp the key points when reading and listening to a variety of authentic texts and cope effectively with different accents. Through texts and discussion points relating to cultural variability, students will develop their intercultural competence and communication skills. Students will be given opportunities to practise existing language in addition to extending and refining their ability to use that language.
