Transfer Applicants

The university welcomes applications from candidates who have completed studies at higher level at another institution and who wish to transfer onto a degree programme at DCU. To qualify for consideration a transfer applicant must

  • Have completed or be about to complete National Certificate/ National Diploma awarded by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) (formerly the National Council for Education Awards (NCEA) or Higher National Diploma course at another institution. In all cases, the applicant's studies must have been in a similar or related subject to the course to which they are applying. Specific entry requirements are indicated for each course in the relevant section of this publication.

  • Have completed or is about to complete one year of study on a degree course awarded by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) (formerly the National Council for Education Awards (NCEA)) or by a university established under the Universities Act 1997, or an equivalent qualification awarded by a similar body outside of the State. It is NOT necessary for the candidate to have studied in a similar or related subject to the course to which they are applying. The point of entry on the degree course and any additional exemptions awarded will depend on the extent of the overlap of the candidate's studies to date with the content of the degree course to which they are applying.
  • Transfer applicants must apply directly to DCU by the 1st July and are assessed based on their application detail and may be called for interview. Depending on the curriculum of their previous studies a transfer applicant may be eligible for advance placement to year two of a three year programme or year three of a four year programme or may get exemptions from certain modules. (Note: Transfer applications to the Bachelor of Business Studies degree programme are considered for first and second year only. It is not possible to transfer to final year.
