Seamus Heaney Lecture Series 2015

In 2000, Seamus Heaney agreed to lend his name to a public lecture series to be hosted by St. Patrick’s College, Dublin City University.  Since then, the series has taken place every second year, each series exploring a different theme.

The eighth series is devoted to the History of Education.  The public lectures will take place in the Lecture Theatre (G114) on the ground floor of the Cregan Library, St Patrick’s Campus.

Seven lectures will be delivered on consecutive Tuesdays in the months of October, November and December by experts in their field on a variety of aspects of the subject.  The series, which has a particular Irish focus, examines the history of education from before the introduction of the National School system right up to secondary education in the middle of the twentieth century, and looks at the school building itself, the place of the Irish language, and the education of the figures of early twentieth century Irish revolution among other topics. You can find a full programme here.

Lectures are free and are open to the public (no need to book). Tea and coffee will be served before lectures in the foyer of the Cregan Library.  Lectures begin at 7 pm.
