The Faculty of Science and Health is renowned for its excellence in teaching and research, for its close links with industry and for the individual attention it gives to its students. In keeping with the overall philosophy of the University, our focus in teaching and research is on inter-disciplinarity. This not only presents our graduates with excellent career opportunities but is also appropriate now that boundaries between traditional disciplines are becoming increasingly diffuse.

On the teaching side our programmes, covering the physical and biological sciences, sport science & health and nursing, reflect the current and anticipated needs of modern society. We place an emphasis on relevance and flexibility and continue to achieve an excellent graduate employment record.

On the research side we have an extensive postgraduate community and welcome enquiries from those of you interested in pursuing either a taught postgraduate course or postgraduate research (see individual School links for details). Faculty members are involved in three National Research Centres, in themselves major recipients of funds from national and international agencies, and a high proportion of staff enjoy an international reputation in their research areas.

I hope that you find the information you require on the Faculty website and its associated links. If not, you will generally be guided in the various sections to a member of staff who could be contacted for further details. In the event this avenue is unsatisfactory please email emer.ohara@dcu.ie who is located in our Faculty Office.

Professor Malcolm Smyth
Dean of Faculty
