Science and Mathematics Education for the new century - Conference 23 and 24 September 2004

Closing date for receipt of abstracts for Oral Presentations was August 20th.
Late registration for conference attendance and Poster Presentations is available until September 14th.

The theme of the conference is “Securing the foundations of Ireland’s knowledge-based economy - Science and Mathematics Education for the new century” and will be hosted by the Centre for the Advancement of Science Teaching and Learning (CASTeL) at Dublin City University/St. Patrick’s College, Dublin.

This conference aims to bring together some of the key thinkers and practitioners in this area from around the world, and to develop outline proposals for bringing the fruits of science education research into effect in our classrooms. A panel of national and international experts in the field of science education will discuss and compare best practice worldwide and apply this to the specific constraints and opportunities offered by the Irish educational system. The conference will include participation by students in order to include that essential perspective, and a bursary will be awarded for the best student poster presentation.

Contributions are invited but not limited to the following areas:

  1. Teacher education in mathematics and science at all levels.
  2. Informal Education.
  3. Teaching: teaching strategies, metacognitive strategies, resources and educational technology.
  4. Research methods and theoretical issues.

The conference will take place in the Faculty of Science in DCU and lunch/refreshments will be provided. The conference dinner will be held in the 1838 Club in DCU on Thursday September 23rd.

If you would like to attend, or make a contribution to the conference, then please complete the registration form and return it to Dr. Eilish McLoughlin, School of Physical Sciences, Dublin City University, Dublin 9 (email: Eilish.McLoughlin@dcu.ie).
