The Socio-Legal Research Centre (SLRC), based in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University, is committed to the study of law in society. The Centre engages in empirical and theoretical research on both national and international levels, focusing on the social, cultural and economic context in which laws are made and enforced.
Members of the SLRC have varying research interests, all of which focus on the interaction between the law and the society in which it is created and applied. These diverse research interests include, amongst others:

Objectives of the Socio-Legal Research Centre
- To contribute to the body of socio-legal knowledge at national and international levels.
- To provide a high quality and supportive research environment for staff in DCU with interests in socio-legal research.
- To attract high quality post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers in socio-legal studies to DCU and, where possible, to secure funding to support their work.
- To serve as a framework to promote and co-ordinate socio-legal research in DCU.
- To undertake funded research projects and provide consultancy for government departments, the EU and other agencies so as to contribute to high-level policy-making and debates.
- To publish significant academic research on socio-legal matters at both national and international levels.
