Innovation Dublin at DCU

DCU is delighted to participate in Innovation Dublin, a week-long festival of events highlighting and promoting innovation in the city. DCU’s contribution ranges from accessing innovation funding to Innovative Thinking and Leadership for the Social Sector to presentations of research excellence in our CSETs and also includes a talk from Dragon’s Den Judge – Sarah Newman.
This unique event is an opportunity for Dubliners - whether they’re entrepreneurs, students, researchers, artists, large corporations and the general public - to promote and celebrate their new ideas and initiatives.
There is a huge range of exciting events and activities scheduled for the week including seminars, workshops, discussions, exhibitions, performances, showcases and competitions - on all kinds of topics.
Each event is themed around a key aspect of urban life: culture, enterprise, people, movement, the environment or the public realm.

“Innovative Thinking and Leadership for the Social Sector”

The social enterprise sector, including the community and voluntary make up the ‘third sector’ in Ireland. Not only does this sector provide thousands of jobs but it also provides social impact and social capital, often to the most disadvantaged groups. “Innovation and the Smart Economy”

Innovation is now universally accepted as extremely important. However, what we mean by "innovation" can range widely. This talk considers this problem and shows that the Government's policy document on the Smart Economy calls for innovation but is not clear on what this means. The issue is illustrated with examples of innovation that give pause for thought about the process, and suggest that innovation must be much more widely understood.
