Ronaldo Munck

Ronaldo Munck came to DCU in 2004 as Theme Leader for Internationalisation, Interculturalism and Social Development from the University of Liverpool where he had been Professor of Political Sociology and Director of the Globalisation and Social Exclusion Unit since 1996. Before that he had been at the University of Durban in South Africa as first post-apartheid Chair in Sociology after number of years at the University of Ulster.

Professor Munck has authored or edited more than 20 books on various topics related to globalisation, international development and social movements as well as over 100 academic journal articles. His work has been translated into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Korean and Turkish. He serves on the editorial boards of a number of international journals including Globalizations, Global Social Policy, Global Labour, Labour History and Latin American Perspectives. He represents DCU on the board of the Centre for Cross Border Studies, on NorDubCo and on the Financial Development and General Strategic Policy Committee of Dublin City Council.

He has acted as External Examiner at Cambridge University, the London School of Economics, University of Warwick, Queen’s University Belfast, National University of Ireland Maynooth, the Open University, University of Sussex, University of Lancaster, University of Florence, Leiden University, Institute of Social Studies: The Hague. Recent keynote speeches include the International Society for Third Sector Research in Bangkok, the International Transport Workers Federation in Oslo, the Critical Development Forum in Zacatecas, and the Development Studies Association in Montreal.
