Volunteer
Welcome
How do you improve your employment or promotional chances? Volunteer! Volunteering is being promoted by an increasing number of companies that see the benefit it brings to the localities they operate in and also the business benefits it brings in terms of reputation, staff bonding and training opportunities. Where companies used to donate cash, now they are encouraged to donate their time and skills. This is where the real value-added aspect is in terms of corporate social responsibility.
So how do you get volunteering? Come along to DCU’s annual Volunteer Expo, in The Hub on Thursday 11th October 2012. The event will run from 11am to 3pm.
- Have you ever wanted to be a volunteer but just didn’t know where to start?
- Do you want to stand out from the crowd at job interviews?
- Would you like to gain valuable work experience while studying?
- Do you want to give back to the wider Community?
If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of the above, or if you are interested in getting more information we strongly recommend you come along to the Volunteer Expo. and chat to the many charities on hand.
Before offering to volunteer, think about:
- Why you want to volunteer?
- What type of voluntary work you would like (and wouldn't like!) to do
- What skills, experience or enthusiasm you can offer
- How much time you can give
- Other practicalities, such as where and when you want to volunteer
Remember that if you decide to volunteer with an organisation, you do have certain rights and responsibilities. See 'charter for effective volunteering'.
