Services and Facilities

The Best Centre can offer a range of services and facilities to industry based on an extensive range of physical resources.  This may involve one-off contract analysis or consultancy; industrially sponsored research projects; or joint bids to grant awarding bodies.

A wide range of state of the art physical resources are available at the Centre's four sites.  Equipment and supporting facilities include:

• Thin film and planar sensor fabrication laboratories offering a wide range of deposition and processing capabilities-electron-beam and thermal evaporation, sputtering, chemical vapour deposition, reactive ion etching, screen printing, photolithography, and other techniques.
• A comprehensive range of specialist equipment for surface, material and interface characterisation and analysis- NMR, electron, scanning tunnel and atomic force microscopy, Low vacuum SEM, ion chromatography, thermal, spectroscopic and other systems.
• Antibody production laboratory and real-time antibody/antigen interaction measurement systems (BIAcore).
• Environment test systems for gas sensor testing.
• Dedicated response testing systems with specially developed data aquisition hardware and software for chemical, biochemical and physical sensors.

Capilliary Zone Electrophoresis (CZE)
Fully equiped chemical, biochemical, optical, electronic annd materials research laboratories are available for device/systems research and development activities.
