In the only other contested constituency in NI, Derry, the independent nationalist was defeated as most nationalists abstained as a protest against the abolition of PR. Devlin did not stand in Belfast because of gerrymandering – he stood in Liverpool and lost. Bonar Law was elected prime minister in Westminster with a Conservative majority of 87.
