Conducting a Literature Review: using citation databases to track research developments
Monday, 16 January, 12:00 - 14:00
This workshop will provide an overview of the main databases available to help
track research and conduct a review of the literature across all disciplines.
It will focus on two key multi-disciplinary citation databases and the techniques
required to use them effectively as well as highlighting discipline specific research tools.
Students will learn how to:
• Effectively plan, search and access information for their literature review
• Confidently use the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus (both multidisciplinary citation databases)
• Select and use appropriate discipline specific databases

Finding theses and dissertations
Tuesday, 17 January, 12:00 – 13:00
This practical workshop will introduce students to the range of thesis and dissertation
resources available.
On completion of this workshop students will be able to:
• Identify the existence of research theses in their chosen subject area
• Locate and consult relevant materials whether online or in print

Stay Alert - keep up to date with new research
Wednesday, 18 January, 13:00 - 14:00
Once you’ve conducted your literature review, the search process will continue
as new research is published. This workshop will show you how to use tools
such as Google Alerts, RSS feeds and the alerting features of our major
databases to help you keep on top of developments in your area in a focused and managed way.

Managing Information using RefWorks
Thursday, 19 January, 12:00 - 13:00
This practical workshop is suitable for beginners and will get you started using RefWorks.
You will learn how to:
• Create a RefWorks account and manage your references
• Save references to your RefWorks
account from academic databases and library catalogue
• Save references manually
• Use RefWorks for in-text citations and creating bibliographies
(in Word documents)

You can also avail of a personal consultation with your Subject Librarian to discuss your individual research needs. They will advise on search strategies and the best print and online resources available to you. They will also provide guidance on the use of library research databases.
