Online Order Form

Notes on the Order Form

When you enter your staff number, your name and email address will be automatically populated. After entering a title, click on the book icon
to see if the library has a copy.

The order form is currently being best tested; there are some glitches, which we're working on. If you are sure that all mandatory fields are completed and the form still won't submit, check the following:

  • have you entered only numbers in the numeric fields: no. of students, no. of books, no. of copies, etc.? (the form doesn't like non numeric data in these fields)
  • when entering price including pence or cents, only enter a full stop, eg. 20.50 (the form won't accept typos such as commas)
  • when choosing your currency use the drop down menu, do not add currency symbol in price box
  • where possible, avoid cutting and pasting data into fields as sometimes this copies empty spaces which the form won't recognise.

If you still experience difficulties, contact your subject librarian. Where you can, please send us a screen capture or print out of the form as it may help us resolve the problem.

Ordering module texts &building library collections

The Library allocates a fund for book purchases (print and e-books) to each school on an annual basis. This fund is managed by your Subject Librarian in collaboration with school Library Liaison Officers. The fund is available to ensure the Library has copies of all books from module reading lists, and to support school research activities.

The Library also allocates funds to support journal subscriptions in print and electronic format. E-journal subscriptions are significantly supported by the IReL initiative. If you wish to discuss the journal collection with the Library, please contact your Subject Librarian.

Collections are developed in collaboration with the university community and within the guidelines of the Library’s Collection Development Policy.

Ordering books on module reading lists

If you have recently updated your reading lists, please ensure you order new material well in advance of the beginning of each semester. Simply fill out the online order form and your Subject Librarian will process the order as soon as possible.
Requests for single copies of background reading material will be added to our Main Lending Collection.

Short Loan Collection

Requests for essential and recommended items will be housed in our Short Loan Collection and/or Main Lending Collection. The Short Loan Collection is a dedicated collection and space on the ground floor which holds multiple copies of essential and recommended module texts. The loan periods for this collection are short (48 hour, 3 hour), thereby ensuring maximum availability to students. The number of multiple copies purchased will depend on the number of students taking the module and whether or not an e-book version is available.

  • Short Loan Review
Material in this collection is reviewed/removed on an annual basis. An email will be sent to academic staff in May requesting staff to indicate if titles will be used again in the new academic year.
  • Short-term transfer of material to the Short Loan Collection
Staff can request that items be added to the collection at peak times only, for example around exam time or project time. It is imperative that staff request this transfer as early as possible. To request a short-term transfer, contact your Subject Librarian.

Monitor the progress of orders

You can monitor the progress of all orders via the Library’s Catalogue:

  • once a book, or other item, has been ordered, it appears in the Catalogue . The record will indicate that it is "on order".
  • When the item comes into the library, this will change to indicate "received" until the item has been catalogued and added to the collection.
  • If you require a "received" item urgently, fill in a rush processing form available at the Information Desk on the ground floor.

Donating material to the Library

The library would welcome donations of copies of publications authored or edited by academic staff in DCU. Click here to view the Library’s Donations Policy regarding all other material.
