The Library provides access to over 200 networked PCs throughout the Library. We also provide wireless access for laptop use and dedicated laptop power and network points on all floors. Students can print from all PCs and from their laptops; access email and the web. For quick access to the Library catalogue, we have dedicated Catalogue PCs on all floors.

PCs in the Library
How do I log on to the PCs?
To login press Ctrl+Alt+Del and enter your username and password (this information is given to students at registration). Using your username and password gives you direct access to the DCU student network and your student portal page.
What if I don’t have my username and password?
If you have forgotten or lost your username and password, staff at the ISS
Service Desk
on the ground floor of the library will assist you.
NB: Always log off when you have finished using a PC.
Are there DVDs in the Library?
Yes. The Library has a wide range of DVDs which are located in the Short Loan area on the ground floor beside the Issue Desk. The main focus of our DVD collection is popular film and foreign language films. You can borrow DVDs for two days at a time.
How can I view DVDs?
You can view DVDs on any of the PCs in the Library. We also have one VCR and 5 DVD players
located behind the bay of DVDs on the first floor. One of the DVD players is a multi region
player - it will support the playing of DVDs produced anywhere. All other DVD players will
support only those DVDs produced in Region 2 areas - Europe, Japan, South Africa and Middle East.
Note: Headphones must be used when viewing and may be borrowed at the Issue Desk
(on production of student ID).
Wireless Access for Laptops
All library study areas support wireless (Wi-Fi) access. Consult the ISS Service Desk on the ground floor of the library or the ISS support pages if you are having problems accessing the network.
Wired Access for Laptops
Power and network points are available throughout the Library for laptop use.
Printing in the Library
How do I print from PCs in the Library?
- If you are a student you can print from any PC once you’ve logged in using your DCU Network username and password. This allows you to print to any of the multifunction machines on any floor of the Library.
- Print jobs are submitted to a queue rather than a specific printer and you collect your print jobs from any of the devices in the library. Simply touch your ID card on the Target on the machine and your print job list will appear. Select PRINT ALL or select whichever job you want released
- b/w print jobs can be collected from any multifunction device
- colour print jobs can be collected ONLY from colour multifunction devices>
- Printing, photocopying and scanning work on a credit-based system. Top up your account balance online through the PaperCut print management system using a credit or laser card.
- Top-up code vouchers are available to purchase in €2 or €5 units at the Issue desk

Can I do colour printing?
Yes, two of the multifunction devices on the ground floor have colour facilities.
How long will my job remain in the queue?
Jobs remain in the print queue for 2 hours. After that they are deleted from the queue, but no charge is made.
What if I forget my Student ID card?
Type in your Network username and password instead
Can I print from my USB?
Yes. No need to log in to a computer, just print directly from
your USB flash drive - pdf, gif, jpg & tiff files ONLY
N.B. Don't forget to LOG OUT!
Where do I get help if I have a problem printing?
Visit the ISS Service Desk on the ground floor of the Library where staff from the
University’s Information and Systems Services
(ISS) Department can help with all your IT- related questions.

No network account?
If you are a visitor, or a member of University staff, ask for a Guest username and password at the Information desk and details of how to set up a guest printing account. Printing, photocopying and scanning work on a credit-based system. Top up your account balance online through the PaperCut print management system using a credit or laser card, or top-up code vouchers are available to purchase in €2 or €5 units at the Issue desk.
Scanning in the Library
Scanning is available on all multifunction machines.
- touch your ID card on Target to begin
- select "Use Copier Functions" on the machine
You can now scan to email or to your USB flash drive.

Getting Help
A Computer Service Desk, staffed by the DCU
Information Systems and Services
(ISS) Department, is located in the printing area on the ground floor of
the library. It is staffed from 08.30 - 20.00 from Monday to Friday and from
12.00 - 15.00 on Saturday. Staff at the desk will help with all your IT problems
or questions for example: network issues, retrieving lost files, hardware problems, PC access,
printing and photocopying.

Any questions relating to the use of library e-resources (journals, databases) should be directed to staff at the Information Desk on the ground floor.
The PCs in the Library are subject to the DCU Code of Conduct for the use of computing resources. PCs are made available for academic purposes only. During busy periods in the library, you may be asked to vacate a workstation if you are using the PC for anything other than research or project work.
