The Library shelves print books firstly according to their:
Subject Matter: Click here for Law and Government Shelf Mark Numbers
Then according to the appropriate collection (this is determined by whether the title is essential or supplementary reading).
Short Loan (borrowable for 3 hours or 48 hours) or
Main Lending (borrowable for 1 week or 3 weeks)
The majority of books you require will be located on the first floor which houses material relating to the Humanities and Social Sciences

E-Books

We now have access to over 5,000 e-books, all of which are searchable via the Catalogue. Remember to select e-books from the Collection menu.
The Library also purchases E-Books Collections, either in response to a direct request from Law and Government staff, or through the IReL consortium. Click here for a list of all our E-Books Collections.

Developing Your Search Strategy | Quick Demo

Provides full text archive of journals on African, Asian, Latin American, Middle East and Slavic Studies, Law, Political Science, Population Studies, Economics, Public Policy and Administration.

Fully indexes over 1,950 journals across 50 social sciences disciplines including International Relations, Law and Political Science.

Legal Databases

British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII)
Provides free access to British and Irish case law & legislation, European Union case law, Law Commission reports, and other law-related British and Irish material.

Curia (Court of Justice of the European Union)
Provides free access to case law from the EU Court of Justice, General Court and Civil Service Tribunal from 1997. Includes opinions form the Advocate General.

Heinonline funded by E-tutorials
HeinOnline is the world's largest image-based legal research database offering access to tens of millions of pages of research material. Fully searchable and browseable access to full-text collections, including:
Law journal library (over 350 US and international academic law journals going back to first issues)
US Supreme Court library (incl. US Reports from 1754)

HUDOC
Provides free access to the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, the European Commission of Human Rights and the Committee of Ministers.

Provides access to 10.6 million pages of legal history relating to American and British Commonwealth law from 1800. It allows full text searching of 22,000 rare works from casebooks to local practice manuals to speeches - all of which are subdivided into 99 subject areas.
