In Vitro Toxicology Group

Building on its expertise in cell culture and toxicology, the Toxicology Group at the NCTCC offers a wide range of services and carries out research into several aspects of cancer. In particular, it has recognised expertise in anticancer drugs and drug analysis. It has developed a portfolio of well characterised cell lines, of varying levels and mechanisms of resistance, to a range of anticancer drugs. The Toxicology Group collaborates with both academic and clinical partners. Research carried out by the Toxicology Group has led to the setting up of a clinical trial in collaboration with St. Vincent’s hospital to test the influence of NSAIDs in increasing the effectiveness of certain anti-cancer agents.

Research Areas:
  • Multidrug resistance, apoptosis and cell cycle
  • Development of multidrug resistant cell lines
  • Drug resistance circumvention
  • Drug analysis and transport
  • Anti-cancer drug screening
