In order to make it easier to locate an item of interest
the 'News' section is segmented into three categories each of which deals
with a particular aspect of the use of digital video or media technology,
and its impact from a professional or societial point of view. You can
link to any category from the left menu on any News page.
Digital
Video Technology (DVT) highlights new technological
developments or uses of such from a professional or semi-professional
perspective.
Topics could include new releases of hardware
such as camcorders, new digital formats and communications technologies
or of software such as editing, compositing or effects applictions etc.
The focus is on the actual technologies rather than their application
or societal impact.
Media & Society (M&S) deals
with the impact of media developments on society and other related topics
that may be of general interest to media producers.
Examples can include the use of video streaming by news
organisations, the growth of the iPod and its potential impact for video
producers or personalities and political decisions that effect media communications.
In fact the range of topics is potentially vast, but generally will focus
on areas that might be of interest to media producers.
Media & Technology (M&T)
focuses on the use and application of media technologies by individuals,
companies or media organisations.
This category could include the use and deployment of Non-Linear
Editing (NLE) systems within a broadcast organisation; the application
of satellite or broadband technologies for news reporters; the use of
mobile phones to stream video to viewers or the use of high-definition
equipment for particular programming requirements. Again the range of
topics is large, but the emphasis in on the application of the technologies
rather than the technologies themselves, which is covered under the DVT
category.
