DCU Access UniTY Awards

On Tuesday 2nd May, in the Mahony Hall of The Helix, DCU Access celebrated over 800 students' participation in UniTY.

UniTY is a programme which provides innovative educational opportunities to Transition Year students residing in communities in Dublin which are currently underrepresented in higher education.

The programme is designed to increase engagement in education and to raise motivation and career aspirations. Students from 17 DCU Access Link Schools attended, and awards were presented for special efforts in the Smart Skills module and the Multimedia module - two core modules on the UniTY programme. The schools who participated in UniTY in 2016/2017 are:

DCU Access UniTY Awards 2017Awards were presented to students from the following schools for their outstanding achievements in Smart Skills:

  • The Donahies Community School

In the Multimedia module, 111 videos which were created by TY students were submitted into a competition for awards. The standard was exceptionally high and the winners were as follows:


  • Winner:   5 In 1 – St Mary’s Holy Faith Glasnevin
  • Runner Up:   Ryans Rise to Dublin – St Kevin's College


  • Winner:   My Story – St Mary’s Holy Faith Glasnevin
  • Runner-Up:   Decisions – Coláiste Eoin

Social Media

  • Winner:   You Wouldn’t Know – The Donahies Community School
  • Runner-Up:   The Things You Own – Margaret Aylward Community College

DCU Access congratulates all 17 participating schools and looks forward to working with a new cohort of Transition Year students for 2017/2018.
