Guest Lecture: Prof. Marvin Formosa on Lifelong Learning in Later Life
We are delighted to welcome Marvin Formosa, Professor at the University of Malta, to Dublin City University for a special guest lecture on lifelong learning.
His lecture, “Lifelong learning in later life: Possibilities, limitations and future prospects,” will explore the evolving role of education in later life, examining both the opportunities and challenges associated with learning in an ageing society. The session will also consider future directions for policy, practice, and inclusive education.
Marvin Formosa is Professor at the Department of Gerontology and Dementia Studies, Faculty for Social Wellbeing, University of Malta. He published widely on lifelong learning, older adult learning and ageing policy. Recent books include Population ageing in the Middle East and North Africa (2021), Ageing and COVID-19 (2021), and The United Nations International Action Plan on Ageing (2023). Prof. Formosa participated in many international research projects such as ‘European services for family carers of older people’ and ‘Establishing Centres for Third Age Education in the Russian Federation, Afghanistan and Ukraine’. In 2021, he was elected as a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. Prof. Formosa also holds the position of Director of the International Institute on Ageing (United Nations - Malta) and Chairperson of the National Commission for Active Ageing (Malta).
This lecture offers a valuable opportunity to engage with current research and global perspectives on lifelong learning and ageing.
