DCU Age-Friendly University Participants to Represent Ireland at the 15th Olympic Games for Universities of the Third Age

DCU Age-Friendly University participants are set to represent Ireland at the 15th Olympic Games for Students of Universities of the Third Age in Slovakia this September, joining older learners from across Europe for two days of sport, activity and international exchange.

DCU Age-Friendly University (AFU) participants are preparing to travel to Zvolen, Slovakia, in September to take part in the 15th Olympic Games for Students of Universities of the Third Age.

Hosted by the Technical University in Zvolen on 16–17 September 2026, the international event brings together older learners from Universities of the Third Age across Europe.

Participants from DCU will join representatives from countries including Slovakia, Czechia, Croatia, France, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Romania, Spain and Turkey.

Over the two-day programme, participants will take part in a range of physical and sporting activities, including table tennis, archery, and bowling, alongside other competitions and social activities.

The Games are designed to promote active ageing and wellbeing while providing opportunities for older learners to meet, connect and exchange experiences with participants from other universities and countries.

DCU’s participation reflects the university’s wider commitment to lifelong learning and to creating opportunities for older people to remain active, socially connected and engaged in university life.

The DCU group is looking forward to representing Ireland in Zvolen and to taking part in an event that combines physical activity, international exchange and the shared experience of lifelong learning.
