Age-Friendly Universities in Action: International Collaboration in Spain
Recent engagements in Spain highlighted the importance of international collaboration in addressing ageing, lifelong learning, and intergenerational engagement. At the University of Murcia, DCU representatives met with Prof. David Cecilio Iyu Espinosa and colleagues, alongside Prof. Lee and Prof. Park from Yonsei University in South Korea, to discuss shared priorities in research, curriculum development, and global mobility. The formal signing of Memoranda of Understanding reflected a strong commitment to future collaboration across Europe and Asia.
Discussions at UIC Barcelona with Prof. Jordi Miralbell and the Campus de l’Experiència team further showcased innovative approaches to senior education, co-creation, and community-engaged learning, with valuable dialogue on inclusive programme design and transferable practice.
Across both visits, common themes emerged around responding to demographic change, strengthening intergenerational approaches, and reinforcing the role of universities as civic partners in ageing societies. Together, these visits demonstrated the strength of international networks built on shared values, trust, and a collective ambition to translate dialogue into meaningful and sustained impact.
