Living Sustainably: Stories, Skills and Wisdom Across Time
Living Sustainably: Stories, Skills and Wisdom Across Time
DCU Age-Friendly University hosted a consultation forum for the Old Skills, New Stories Intergenerational Sustainability Project.
The session formed part of the development of a new intergenerational sustainability initiative and brought together Age-Friendly University participants to share lived experiences and practical knowledge.
The project builds on lived experiences that many associate with earlier forms of sustainable living. Participants shared practices such as reusing jars, repairing household items, maintaining bicycles and cars, rewiring plugs, preserving food, growing vegetables, and repurposing materials. These contributions provided a foundation for considering how practical knowledge can inform contemporary sustainability initiatives.
Informing the Next Phase
The consultation also explored creative possibilities for sharing these stories. Participants’ preferences will guide the design of the next stage of the project. These contributions will shape a future intergenerational initiative that connects lived experience with contemporary sustainability practice.
The initiative is being developed in collaboration with RCE Dublin and the Education for Sustainability Unit at St Patrick’s Campus, Dublin City University.
