Three Interns Complete Internships with DCU Age-Friendly University
Over recent months, Haylee Castillo, Juliet Dove and Oisin Duffy have worked alongside the DCU Age-Friendly University team across a broad range of programmes, events and research activities.
Haylee Castillo, who is a Double Degree Honours student at Brock University (Canada) and DCU, contributed across several areas of the AFU's work. She supported the Love of Lifelong Learning initiative, the Intergenerational Solidarity Awards and Taste of DCU, alongside Erasmus+ adult learning visits and activities connected with the Erasmus+ MEMORABLE project. She also assisted with the early planning and promotion of our upcoming Generations at Work conference. Her placement included involvement in the Old Skills, New Stories Intergenerational Sustainability Project consultation forum and the annual Ageless Expressions art exhibition. Haylee also contributed to DCU Age-Friendly University's submission on the new Healthy Ireland Framework.
Juliet Dove, a psychology student at University of Iowa (USA), supported AFU workshops and activities with participants and contributed to the MEMORABLE transnational project meeting. She was also involved in the AFU Summer Lunch and training for older adults delivered with Alliance Française Dublin, gaining experience across the AFU's educational and community-facing work.
Oisin, a final-year student at Dublin City University, contributed to the Intergenerational Solidarity Awards, Taste of DCU, Erasmus+ adult learning visits, the 50 Plus Show, the AFU Summer Lunch and the MEMORABLE transnational project meeting.
A particular highlight for Oisin was seeing participants come together to learn and socialise through the Love of Lifelong Learning initiative. Through his regular engagement with AFU participants, he developed a deeper appreciation of attentive listening and personal connection, which he hopes to carry into his future career in rehabilitation.
Reflecting on his placement, Oisin said:
"I want to extend my infinite gratitude to the AFU team. Without this opportunity, I wouldn't have gotten to experience the amazing time I had working here and the skills I was able to learn and refine."
We thank Haylee , Julie and Oisin for the time and energy they brought to DCU Age-Friendly University Unit and wish them well as they continue their studies and move towards their future careers.
