AIDE brings together a growing portfolio of national and international research projects that explore the role of artificial intelligence, digital innovation, wellbeing, inclusion, immersive technologies, and educational transformation.

Our projects connect research, policy, and practice, working closely with educators, schools, policymakers, technology partners, and communities to address contemporary educational challenges.

Building AI Competencies in Teachers

PAIDEIA is a European project focused on supporting educators in developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to engage with artificial intelligence in educational settings. The project has developed AI and education competence frameworks, professional learning resources, classroom pilots, and policy recommendations to support the responsible integration of AI across education.

TechWell explores how schools and educational organisations can create healthy, balanced, inclusive, and sustainable digital learning environments. The project brings together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders to develop evidence-based approaches to digital wellbeing and responsible technology use.

Digital and Immersive Virtual Reality for Simulation in Teacher Education

DIVeRSITE investigates the use of immersive technologies, including virtual reality and simulation-based learning, to support communication skills, inclusion, and practice-based learning in teacher education. The project demonstrates how innovative technologies can create authentic learning experiences for educators and learners.

Emerging Projects

AIDE members are actively involved in a wide range of funded and emerging research initiatives across:

  • Framework for Responsible Academic Modules & Evaluation in AI (a collaboration with the University of Kent).
  • Teaching Futures: Pedagogical Uses of Creative & Emerging Technologies in Education (a collaboration with the Emirates College For Advanced Education (UAE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Malaysia),  and University of Kent (UK)).
  • Using Virtual Reality to Bridge Disciplinary Knowledge Gaps in Pre-Service Science Teachers in Ireland
  • School Leaders' Readiness and Practice on the Use of Data-Driven Leadership in Ireland: A Mixed-Methods Study.
  • Exploring UAE educators perceptions of integrating AI as an Innovative Resource in Education.
  • Learning With and Against AI: How Pre-Service Language Teachers Co-Design and Critically Evaluate AI-Generated Outputs
