2025 Alumni Awardee Julie Connelly
Julie Connelly is the co-founder and CEO of AI Mapit, a spinout of the ADAPT Research Centre that uses AI and computer vision to create digital maps of roadside infrastructure enabling telecoms and utility companies to manage their physical infrastructure efficiently and sustainably.
A graduate of DCU’s pioneering Computer Applications programme, Julie’s early career spanned a variety of roles in the telecoms industry from R&D in telecoms network management, for which she holds a patent, to Product Management and Sales Support of Fibre Optic Transmission Systems for Ericsson in Sweden and Ireland.
Julie has a particular interest in how technology can be used to solve everyday operational challenges. She has collaborated with industry partners across telecoms, smart cities, and public infrastructure, gaining experience in designing solutions that integrate into real-world workflows.
Founded in 2022, AI Mapit won the New Frontiers award in the 2023 Irish Times Innovation Awards and subsequently raised pre-seed funding from Enterprise Ireland.
Alongside her work in industry, Julie contributes to the wider Irish tech community through mentoring and by sharing her experiences with early-stage founders and students considering careers in AI. She is especially committed to supporting women entering the technology and startup sectors through her involvement with TechFoundHer and AwakenHub.
Julie is recognised for her strategic vision, technical expertise, and leadership. She credits her time at DCU with shaping her approach to innovation, teamwork, and practical problem-solving, and she embodies the values of DCU alumni; entrepreneurial, ambitious, and committed to creating positive change.
